Primary school is the key period for the development of students’ language ability. BES primary school provides bilingual immersion teaching through the cooperation of experienced Chinese and foreign teachers. The study of mother tongue can enhance students’ identity, deepen their cultural background and cultivate their self-confidence. The acquisition—and eventual mastery–of English will improve students’ ability for cross-cultural communication and understanding, while furthering their international mindedness and identity. BES respects each student’s development and differences in language learning, providing differentiated support programs. Social Emotional Learning, Arts and Aesthetics in Education, Information and Technology Literacy are the three key focus areas for BES students. SEL is the foundation of students’ happy and meaningful life. With our SEL expert’s help, BES primary school teachers and students learn SEL together, and empower students to face life’s challenges with a positive and thoughtful attitude. They can then overcome setbacks and problems, and realize BES values of “Cultivate and Enlighten Self and Others, and “Unity of Knowledge and Action, Being Honest with Self and Others”. Primary school art is one of the keys to children’s quality of life, both internally and externally. Art education filters through all teaching activities, including the cultivation of aesthetic literacy, and bringing creative expression and artistic sentiment to each student’s development. Primary school Information and Technology Literacy is a driving force of children’s future life and learning. With the help of project-based learning, library study and media literacy courses, students can develop their rational thinking and solve problems creatively. They can thus make themselves more valuable to the community, and create a better future life for themselves and others. The primary school curriculum content is flexible and diverse, so as to provide children with Chinese and Western pedagogical integration. BES primary school combines the Chinese National Curriculum, the concept of “whole child development education” and the IB PYP framework. Chinese and foreign teachers cooperate to enable students to carry out learning across subjects and through transdisciplinary inquiry, driven by concepts to build subject skills and learning methods.
